政府の行政刷新会議による「事業仕分け」で、科学技術経費が続々縮小されていることを、米中露や韓国など周辺諸国は「歓迎」している。日本の誇る科学技術力が今後低下し、競争力が弱まる可能性が強いからだ。

　ある韓国の外交官は「日本が何でこのような自殺行為をするのかよく分からない」とコメントした。ロシアの外交官も「世界の流れと逆行している」と話した。ロシアでは、プーチン政権下で科学技術予算は最も高い伸びを示し、昨年来の金融危機後も削られていないという。
